Kizil Goncalar follows Meryem, married at 14 within a strict Islamic sect, who resolves to spare her teenage daughter Zeynep the same fate. After relocating to Istanbul near the sect’s center, Meryem learns her husband Naim plans to wed Zeynep to the sheikh’s troubled grandson, Cüneyd. Fleeing with Zeynep, Meryem takes work as a caregiver in the home of Levent, a secular psychiatrist and staunch Atatürkist.
